Interview each company representative.

Get references from each company

Check to see if they are legally licensed in the city, county and state you would want them to build your house.

Find out the latest project they completed. Go to that project and talk to a few people about possible problems they had after moving into their new constructed place.

Check the Better Business Bureau of your city and state to find out if there have been complaints lodged against them.

Check their suppliers about the material they purchase and use.

If they have a current local project you might go by there to see what they are doing.

Find out if they complete the project on time and are there benefits for you for their failure to complete the project of course natural causes such as rain, snow and other storms would not be considered a reason for a benefit on your behalf.

These are a few things I would consider before hiring a construction company for any work.
