Word of advice in learning Japanese style artwork: learn Japanese philosophy and Eastern ethos. The style is different because the outlook is. Western art is about rendering objects, Eastern art is about what the object is or isn't in it's environment. It's a whole different mindset. That will help you draw better in this format, and not get stuck on the details (so stressed in Western art). Appreciate cause and effect, time and distance, and patience. A stroke of a pen is indeed mightier than a sword, mentality.
