what?? please tell me you're joking. Most poor of the poorest countries in the world aren't Christian at all. The poorest countries are generally in Africa, which is a mix of Islamic, Christian, and native African religions. And none of this poverty is the result of Catholicism or any other religion.

I think your question is somewhat incorrect but I will answer it the best way I can. If you look at wealthy countries like Spain, Italy and France they are predominately (France) or completely Catholic.

In general, I think poor countries are more religious because you need more faith to survive poverty and hardship. I feel if you grow up with a lot of money and material goods there is less of an emphasis on the importance of prayer and faith in God. I am referring to people who can barely survive and have trouble affording groceries. Most countries in Latin America are predominately Catholic because the influence of missionaries some hundreds of years ago and the Catholic Church has strong ties with government that doesn't exist in the US. It is viewed as a source of wisdom and guidance.

Visit places like Austria, Spain, Italy, half of Germany and compare poverty rates there to places like the US, and you might change your mind

I'm not a catholic nor a professional, but a tiny percentage may be that they believe that if they sin, they can pay the church to be forgiven. Obviously, people sin (but dont dismiss they try not to) daily. im not sure but other issues may be involving what you are seeing.

Because of overpopulation. With many extra people, there is more corruption and crime. There isn't enough work to go around. Plus, most Catholic countries are warm weathered and people tend to be more lazy when its hot all the time.
